Feeling Alive

When life brings new and welcome beginnings, such as new babies and grandbabies, our children’s engagements and weddings, and new creative endeavors, a sense of aliveness animates the soul. Sometimes it’s a new phase in life that begs a new beginning after a difficult ending.  Sometimes it’s a new endeavor that you have worked tirelessly and passionately to complete.  Whenever God opens up the heart to the something “new,” life seems to take on a new depth and renewed energy.

This energy is felt in multiple ways.  In the mind, the energy forms ideas and brings clarity. Sometimes the mind “races” with a plethora of creative thoughts.  The body takes on this new energy—the heart pulses with excitement, the body feels active, stronger, and full of vitality.  You want to dance, walk, run, exercise! The soul wants to join in the excitement and the heart feels renewed joy! The spirit rejoices in God’s grace. The body-mind-soul-spirit connection is so closely integrated that the feeling of being alive is felt in every aspect of your being!

These moments of new energy and creative bursts are moments when we are co-creating with God. When God speaks, “Behold, I am doing a new thing,” (Isaiah 43:19, ESV), we benefit when we remember that God does new things WITH us and THROUGH us. We are part of the divine unfolding. We are vessels for God’s new creation to shine forth. The greatest joy is when we discover that our dreams and passions are God working through us for the greater good. As the new thing God is doing is springing forth, the blessing is to perceive it, to see it, to receive it, to accept it.  May your life, your whole being—body, mind, soul and spirit—embody the work of God.  This is the gift of being alive. Give thanks!

many blessings,
